UAN is an explosive and fire-safe fertilizer, therefore, for its transportation, electric pumps with a motor in a general industrial design can be used, however, the flow path of such pumps must be made of a material resistant to ammonia and derivatives of nitric acid. Such materials are stainless steel and plastics (PP, PVDF).

Thus, UAN provides prolonged nitrogen nutrition for plants. Due to the absence of free ammonia in the composition of the UAN, it does not evaporate into the atmosphere upon application, however, the presence of the ammonium form still makes the minimum embedding desirable, especially in conditions of high temperatures and the absence of precipitation after application.
