One of the most important elements of modern heating systems with artificial circulation of the coolant is a circulating pump. If the open heating system operates only due to the natural circulation of the fluid, in closed systems for the circulation of the coolant the pump is a mandatory element.

Types of circulation pumps

Circulation pumps can be divided into two main types:

With "dry" rotor. The electric motor of such units is not in contact with the pumped liquid. The pumping part is hermetically separated from the electric motor by means of a mechanical sliding seal. The advantage of this type of pumps is their high efficiency of up to 80% and therefore they are used for pumping large volumes of water, e.g. in centralized boiler houses. Dry-rotor pumps are cooled by air (with a fan on the motor shaft) and therefore have a higher noise level.
With "wet" rotor. The rotor of the electric motor and the impeller are directly in the pumped liquid, which both cools the motor and lubricates the bearings. The stator, through which the electric current flows, is protected from ingress of coolant by a special stainless non-magnetic cup.
