A pump unit with an installed mechanical seal does not need constant maintenance and at the same time can withstand an increased fluid pressure. Face seals are used to eliminate leaks on the shaft in various pumping equipment pumping various liquids. We will consider mechanical seals used to seal the shafts of pumps and various units that stir liquids.
The mechanical seal consists of two parts: non-movable and movable. The movable part is a counter ring, pressed against another stationary ring by means of a spring. The moving part is fixed to the motor shaft and rotates with it. The stationary part is a ring fixed in the pump housing.
The pumped medium can leak through the mechanical seal in two directions: between the moving and stationary parts of the mechanical seal and through the gap between the moving ring of the mechanical seal and the motor shaft. Leakage between the moving and stationary rings in the mechanical seal is prevented by the high-quality sealing of the contacts between the parts of the mechanical seal.
